Bjarte Reve new CEO of Nansen Neuroscience Network

"The Board of Directors of Nansen Neuroscience Network (NNN) have appointed Bjarte Reve as our new CEO. He's one of the few in Norway that previously has been in a similar position and created impressive results, as CEO of Oslo Cancer Cluster NCE.

We welcome Bjarte Reve to Nansen Neuroscience Network and we will also use this opportunity to thank our existing CEO Leif Rune Skymoen for an outstanding job during his two year tenure. Start date is to be decided for Reve.

Nansen Neuroscience Network is founded as an independent organization with the purpose of connecting brain science and business to speed up development of new diagnostics and treatments for Alzheimer's and other dementia related illnesses, MS, and psychiatric illnesses.

One out of three seniors dies with Alzheimer's or other dementia. We need to understand and research the brain, the most complex structure in the universe in order to develop new diagnostics and treatments. Nansen Neuroscience Network will be the connector between brain science and business in order to boost innovation. We are funded by Innovation Norway and from our members, universities, hospitals and businesses.

Norway has a proud history in the field of neuroscience. Fridtjof Nansen in 1886 at an early age of 26 years, published his dissertation, showing that the nervous system communicates through signal transmission through individual cells (neurons) with contact points (synapses) that serve to transmit signals.

Today, many of our research groups active in Nansen Neuroscience Network are world class. Professors Edvard and May-Britt Moser were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for 2014 "for their discoveries of cells that constitute a positioning system in the brain." Professors May-Britt and Edvard Moser head the NTNU's Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience.

Bjarte Reve has previously been the CEO of Oslo Cancer Cluster NCE, a cluster organisation that works to accelerate development of new cancer diagnostics and medicines. He held this position from 2007-2011. Since 2011, Reve has been the Chief Communications. Officer at Akershus University Hospital. Previously he has worked in MSD Norge, Apokjeden/Apotek1, Helse Sør RHF, Novartis and EY. He has an Executive MBA from NHH, Master of Management degree from BI, and a bachelor degree from University of Bergen.

World Economic Forum honored him in 2009 as a Young Global Leader. He has been active in the WEF activities since. Bjarte Reve is an elected politician for the Conservative Party (Høyre) in Bærum kommune from 2011-2015.

"Our ambition should be to create Europe's leading hub for neuroscience commercialization says Bjarte Reve. We have world class research groups, demonstrated by the Nobel Prize in medicine to May-Britt Moser and Edvard Moser in 2014. Norwegian government has also strongly supported and support research investments in neuroscience. However, we lag behind in innovation. We need more connections and collaboration between brain science and business in order to develop life saving diagnostics and treatments for brain diseases. Nansen Neuroscience Network will be the vehicle between brain science and business for the goal of developing new diagnostics and treatments. We welcome collaboration nationally and internationally in order to succeed."
